The reason to buy a food processor is simple, making cooking fun, easy, relaxing and fast. For me food processor is a blessing as it allows me to do more than one function and saves my tons of time.

But before you invest in a food processor let me help you in identifying the one you need.

Food processor –Is a kitchen appliance which uses interchangeable blades and attachments instead of a fixed blade unlike blenders.

The followings factors will help you in making the informed purchase:

Budget-There are various options available in the market ranging from INR 3000 to INR 10,000. For example Philiphs-HR7620 (INR 3195), Inalsa Magic 450w (INR 4695) and in higher bracket Morphy Richards Select 600 (7995), Philips HL1659 (INR 8595) etc.For more details please check out the company website of each brand given below:

Features- All the functions that a high end food processor performs are:

  • Chopping vegetables
  • Aata Kneading
  • Slicing Fine & Coarse
  • Shredding Fine & Coarse
  • Shredding ( Coconut)
  • French fry cutting blade
  • Whisking

Now depending on the functions you are looking for and the price you are willing to pay, you can choose a food processor.

Attachments and Accessories- Most of the food processors have sufficient functions like chopping, shredding and slicing. But depending on your usage and budget you can go for the extra attachments and accessories like chutney jar, wet grinding jar and juicer etc.

Kitchen and family size-If you have a small family or you are a bachelor who loves cooking go for a mini-processor. They may be small in size but are very efficient. They are perfect for quick, small jobs and take up very little space in the kitchen. Like Philips HR7620, Kenwood Mini Chopper-CH180A or CH550.

But for a larger family I would suggest a full sized food processor with blender jar, chutney jar, wet grinding jar, food processing bowl and other attachments. Like Inalsa Magic Plus 650w, Jaipan NEWFP and even Philips HL1659.

User friendly-Ensure that the food processor you choose do not have any complicated procedure to change the blades and is user friendly.

Locking function-Make sure the food processor you choose should have a locking function (i.e. the food processor will not start till the jar is correctly locked) making it safe for operations especially with kids around.

Over load protection-Many a times we put more stuff than recommended in the jars. As a result the motor is over-loaded and its burns out. But having over load protection feature will prevent this as it works like common fuse in the house, know as a circuit breaker. This safety feature will increase shelf life of your processor as well as your home.

Hope the above information was helpful. If you need reviews or any other information regarding any brand or a particular model please drop you query in the  comment box below.

Happy chopping!
